An hour's worth of highlights from the 16th annual Seattle concert of
the Sacred Music of Duke Ellington will air on Jazz Northwest at 4 pm
PT (7 pm ET) this Saturday, Christmas Day. The music embraces jazz,
gospel and choral music in a wide variety of moods and textures from
meditative solos and duos to exuberant, driving gospel music. The
selections are drawn from three concerts of Sacred Music composed by
Duke Ellington in the last decade of his life.

The concert was recorded exclusively for this broadcast last Saturday
night in the rich acoustics of the University Christian Church in
Seattle before an enthusiastic audience. It has become a
well-established annual tradition in the Seattle jazz community and
beyond..

The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra is directed by Clarence Acox and
Michael Brockman and is joined by vocal soloists Nichol Eskridge and
James Caddell and the Oregon Repertory Singers. The SRJO includes many
of this region's top jazz players (Jay Thomas, Hadley Caliman, Bill
Ramsay, Mark Taylor, Dan Marcus, Bill Anthony, Larry Fuller, Phil
Sparks et al.)
