Fw: [JPL] Miles Davis/ Killer Joe

Hi all,

Yes, "Killer Joe" is a great piece by Benny Golson and the original version
came out on "Meet The Jazztet" by the Art Farmer/Benny Golson's Jazztet
(released on Argo LP 664, May 1, 1960 and reissued by Chess/MCA Records in
1990). The drummer was Lex Humphries. Please, listen to Golson's
narration... what a voice!

I know it (among other things) because I hear it (and broadcast it) twice a
week (!!!) in my "Um Toque de Jazz" program at the Portuguese Public Radio,
since 1993. It is the theme I chose for the program.

Miles never recorded it, I believe. But there are great and interesting
versions: Jack Sheldon/Frank Rosolino (1965); Quincy Jones (1969); Philly
Joe Jones (1981); Tito Puente (1987); Marc Johnson/Toots Thielemans (1989);
Ray Barretto (1993); Bud Shank (1993) and Benny Golson (himself, with Eddie
Henderson) on the "Terminal 1" CD (2004).

Great stuff!

Manuel Jorge Veloso
