We can go on and on agreeing and disagreeing about all this, and while some
comments indicate opinions we may not agree, I think Jae's comment about the
family of the decease having jurisdiction over the release of the product is
to be considered.
But, it does not necessarilly mean anything there either. Their judgement may
not express the will of the artists opinion at this juncture if they were
alive. So, I still feel it is my opinion that serves me well, not theirs.
Just a judgement call.

Now there's a man who knows his music.
But, does it make the subject matter in this instance
credible?
Ron Gill

Just a quick reminder that Ray recorded his 1959 masterpiece THE GENIUS OF
RAY CHARLES with members of the Basie (Joe Newman, Al Grey, Frank Wess,
Marshall Royal, Billy Mitchell, Charlie Fowlkes, Freddie Green, Eddie Jones),
Ellington (Clark Terry, Quentin Jackson, Paul Gonsalves), and Ray Charles
Orchestras, and featuring arrangements by Ernie Wilkins, Quincy Jones, Al
Cohn, and Ralph Burns. Not surprisingly, given the big band ideal of the
day, it's got a Basie feel throughout.
