It's good to hear Wilbur Ware in the re-issue set, and it's too bad
for Wilbur Ware fans that he'd left the quartet by the time of the
Carnegie Hall Concert. Wilbur's son called the station last week while
we were doing a feature on his father -- Ware was living in Grand
Rapids around 1939 playing at the Crispus Attacks (sp) with a show
drummer named Benny Carew, who's band also featured Hank Jones and
Wardell Gray at various times. Ware started his family then.

Funny typo in the text about Monk as a "pianist-singer." lol

The mono mixes of the studio sessions work best for listening to
Wilbur Ware -- the stereo versions about lose the bass completely.
