[JPL] Robert Altman, Leading Director, Dies at 81

Sad news.  Many know of his use of jazz in films such as Short Cuts and Kansas City...not as well-known that Altman was involved with the making of a 1957 James Dean documentary, which utilized a Leith Stevens score recorded by Chet Baker and Bud Shank.

Robert Altman, who was behind "M-A-S-H," "Nashville" and "The
Player," died at a Los Angeles Hospital, his production
company told The Associated Press. He was 81.
