Chaos at jazz festival after sound hitches

Citizen reporter
JOHANNESBURG – Chaos erupted at Germiston Lake on Sunday when an angry
crowd went on the rampage at the Jazz Inferno Festival.

Musicians playing to an audience of 10 000 had to leave the stage twice
while technical hitches were sorted out.
Spokesman Jimmy Maboko said some people began throwing bottles onto the
stage while others robbed liquor vendors, and stole stage equipment worth
R50 000.

Revellers were also attacked.

“People started to get impatient because of the poor sound quality and
technical difficulties,” said Maboko.
Kaya FM also had their car’s rear and side windows damaged during the
chaos. Three people were seriously injured while running for safety, and
treated by the Ekurhuleni paramedics.

No arrests were made.

“It was a huge number of people and it was not easy to make arrests,” said
Maboko.
All victims at the event were advised to open cases at their nearest police
station.
