As much as I agree with all of your emails of disappointment about
Ramsey Lewis' honor, Ramsey Lewis was one of the first pianists whose
name that many people in our culture have been exposed to in terms of
jazz. Ramsey has not done much for me musically over his career but he
has exposed many in our culture to the majesty of jazz. I'm sure this
was taken into consideration by the committee that gave him the
honorific.
That being said, when do you think Kenny G will get nominated,
particularly for his amazing duet with Louis Armstrong which reached the
ears of countless millions uninitiated to the glory of jazz music?

:)

FACT.........how the hell else could that guy get the honor, while
others with lengthy ongoing careers and *real* piano accomplishments
aren't awarded.

I'll name four for starters (you come up with your own...the list before
Ramsey in lengthy)
-Cedar Walton
-Junior Mance
-Cecil Taylor
-Kenny Barron

Have fun!

I missed the report on the "campaigning." Is that a given, a rumor, a
