I think Kenny was/is just blowing smoke when he says he never marketed 
himself as jazz.

I'm sure that he was completely aware of being promoted as a "smooth-
jazz" artist, and he fully participated in all that that means. 

He put his marketing degree to good use, to the tune of 75 million 
albums sold over the course of his career. So ... more power to him, I 
guess.
