[JPL] FW: Has anyone heard the new Stanley Clarke recording"Standards"?

Being able to buy "un-authorized" material from a legitimate retailer is
nothing new.

1970 CBS/Sony released "Purple" by Miroslav Vitous w/Joe Zawinul, Billy
Cobham, and John McLaughlin in Japan without authorization from all the
artists. (Joe refused to autograph it).

As far as I know, the entire Jazz Door catalog, which often finds it's way
into record bins, is un-authorized. I believe the Jazz Door story is an
oblique connection to soundboard tapes from Italy, where they have no
copyright laws.

The recent CBS/Sony release of Weather Report's 1978 Rockpalast concert on
DVD was selling as "Young & Fine" on an obscure label without authorization.

Billy Cobham's DVD "Glass Menagerie" released on TDK is not authorized and
being sold on Amazon.com

Miles Davis' "Live" on Delta Records (From his last concert at Avignon) was
being sold at Tower Records

The list goes on and on.

I think there's some similarity to the relationship between movie stars and
the tabloids. Only the stars that can afford to pursue legal action can stop
what they print. Most musicians can't afford to go after these companies,
especially when the company is nearly impossible to track down, or too big
to fight.

Audiophile Imports is selling it this month as a feature. I can't believe on
this outlet they would be selling this against the artists wishes but it may
be out of the artists control. Anyone remember that Al Jarreau "1965"
release? I thought that his best record ever interestingly enough but he
never wanted it released.

My understanding is that Stanley's cd is being released without Stanley's,
Patrice's and Ndugu's permission.
