I LOVE Serge Chaloff's sound - immediately identifiable like Carney,
Mulligan, Bob Gioga, Pepper Adams, Nick Brignola and others. It's an
instrument that has a lot of character, and there were a lot of
characters who played it! If you can find it, check out Serge
Chaloff's Capitol album "Blue Serge" - especially "Thanks For the
Memory" from that album. He plays the whole range of the instrument,
and the low notes will loosen your molars. Too bad he didn't make
more sessions under his own name.
