Hello Tom,

When Deval Patrick was in Springfield for the Caribbean parade, I had the opportunity to introduce him to our drummer Billy Arnold, at that time, he (Patrick) said that he was a drummer too. Also, I attended a campaign rally in Boston that also featured Senator Obama and during the time before the speeches began, they kept playing John Coltrane before the rally. I guess its in the blood.

I'm getting a fair number of inquiries from listeners curious to know if it's true that Deval Patrick, the front-running Democratic nominee for Governor of Massachusetts, is the son of saxophonist Pat Patrick, who spent many years playing with Sun Ra.

He is.

Here's the link to a Boston Globe profile of the Chicago-born 49 year-old.
