I was slated to sub for our weekly host of our Sunday Salsa cpn Jazz show,
since patato passed away on Tuesday I decided to pay honor to his memory and
dedicate the 2 hr program to the musical career of Carlos Valdéz-the
immortal Patato, one of the most mythical characters of music and perhaps
the most melodic of percussionists.

I'll play his Cuban dance music recordings of Cuba beginning with his frist
recordings in the 1940s with conjuntos Kubavana and Casino in Cuba,
his work with the giants of jazz in NYC beginning with Kenny Dorham and
Herbie Mann, I'll also play his most rare recordings that Mongo arranged,
Los Asericanos for the SMC/Coda label, 78rpm singles, I'll also play some of
his "salsa" and folkloric recordings of NYC with Pacheco, Kako, Arsenio,
Rodríguez, Machito, Chico, TP, Cortijo, Cachao, Totico and the Latin
Percussion Jazz Ensemble, also his LP sides with Papaito, with Changuito,
Conga Kings etc etc Of course I'll throw in a track or two with Patato
playing Cuban tres guitar. "Ibanae al Monina Mayor, cabio sile changó"
