Thought I'd forward this information (below) about Nat Adderley, Jr.,
from Larry Burke, music prof at Florida Southern College in Lakeland
(for the record, the repository of the single largest collection of
buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright).

He also sent along info on the 20th anniversary of the Child of the
Sun Jazz Festival, which was born and nurtured with much help from
Nat. Nat lived in Lakeland for the last several decades of his life,
and was resident artist at FSC. The fest is set for March 23-24, and
PBJQ is my band.

The fest has continued to feature performances by many musicians
associated with Nat and Cannonball, including Jimmy Cobb, Larry
Willis, Antonio Hart, Vincent Herring and the late Walter Booker.

For more info on the festival, go to
http://www.flsouthern.edu/academics/music/jazz.htm

By the way, I had the great good fortune of producing a Nat recording
session for a Monk tribute disc, "Monk in the Sun," which I released
on a tiny label about 10 years ago (plenty copies still available from
me, if anyone is interested). CD also features Jeff Berlin, Kenny Drew
Jr. and an abundance of good Tampa Bay area bands; it received airplay
around Florida, and was featured on "Jazz South."

Larry's note below

Hi Philip,
Just for the record, he is now working quite a lot with Vincent
Herring.
He also, as you may remember, performed on the "Child of the Sun" doing
straight ahead jazz (nothing smooth here!) Share this with these guys
if you'd like.
By the way, here's the official line-up:

Friday 7:30 PM Branscomb Auditorium
Lew Soloff, Jimmy Cobb, John Webber and the Festival Winds directed by
Dr. J. Jossim performing Gil Evans' "Porgy and Bess" and selections
from
"Sketches of Spain"

Saturday - West Lawn of Annie Pfieffer Chapel
2:00 Victoria de Lissovoy Quartet
3:15 PBJQ
4:30 FSC Jazz Ensemble
5:45 Jimmy Cobb Trio with Richard Wyands and John Webber
7:00 /Roni Ben-Hur Quintet featuring Jeremy Pelt, Ronnie Mathews, Leroy
Williams, and Santi DeBriano

Larry
