[JPL] Vinnie Recordings

Besides the Zappa classics a few of my favs with Vinnie are the Randy Waldman CD's...."Wigged Out" and "Unreel." His playing on these recordings is simply amazing...over the wackiest arrangements. After hearing him here I'm convinced he can play anything. Then there is the Mahavishu Orchestra Tribute on Tone Center. He obviously listened to Cobham before he recorded those dates but smartly didn't emulate him. He also has enough of his own to not have to. He brought an interesting twist to those McLaughlin classics. The scary part is that they recorded those sessions in one day. I read an interview with him in a recent Modern Drummer where he stated he was sorry he didn't have more time to record the Mahavishu date. Say what? After seeing those vidio clips of him on tour with Herbie I hope they recorded and will release something.
