Sorry Brad I have to disagree with you here. Ed will make up his own mind about what he wants to do with this service. From my perspective there's not much else we can do. The money we gave will need to be a yearly thing and without requirement I don't see how that can sustain itself. So the bottom line is up to Ed. That said, why drown in sorrow? I haven't seen anyone write in recently about much of anything so why not have some fun. We haven't seen anything about what you're referring to because there's not much else we can do. Money is the bottom line and what Ed chooses to do with his time. If it goes away it goes away. Jazz will survive. We'll miss it yes but that's the way it is until the next thing comes along.

I hate to rain on everyone's parade here, but I had to speak up. it just
seems to me that we are in the midst of a crisis, with Ed scaling back
JazzWeek, and the potential of a Top 50 jazz chart disappearing all
together.... And yet we are discussing who the greatest living legend in
jazz is! Shouldn't we be directing our energies into discussing what
would happen to the jazz community if we lose the chart, and what can be
done to help Ed, etc.? Seems to me to be the only topic of relevance
right now, on a jazz programmer's list.

The thing with Ornette is that you have someone that is innovative to a
style in the genre. It was limited to that - albeit hugely important.
Considering..... I would say Phil Woods.....because his body of work is
more expansive. Folk don't talk about that much. When you really look at
his body of work it's incredible.
As for drums.....I would probably say Roy Haynes over Max simply
because Roy has been blessed with better health - consequently giving
him the longevity edge in active performance.
And in terms of piano....I would probably put Chick Corea in there in
place of Horace Silver....not for longevity obviously but more for the
impact of their influence.
Just my opinion of course.

She has been a student of New England Preparatory School since 2003. Grace is or has studied with Lee Konitz, Jerry Bergonzi, Cedar Walton, Phil Woods, Allan Chase, Rebecca Parris, James Merenda, and Jeremy Udden.

This is Miss Kelly's 3rd CD, and it's a very nice one. Of course you know Grace is 14 years on this planet, and is all ears and heart. Beautiful sound on her alto, and some lovely phrases to boot!
Lester Young asked a young player after hearing a technical display, ''but can you sing me a song?'' Grace can definitely do that. Good rhythm, nice arrangements, creative originals. She sings like crazy!
What more could we ask for?
After hearing your project, I'm convinced that your talent is definitely worthy of the attention of the Jazz community, and your future is genuinely going to earn a high level of achievement.
