Hi Jae and Jim,

Sounds like the typical common practice of the day.  Irving Mills, Joe
Glaser and others did that to Duke Ellington and others as well.  That's
the music "business."  

As Hunter S. Thompson once said, "The music business is a cruel and
shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run
free and good men die like dogs.  There is also a negative side."
