one of Joe's pleasures was sipping Slivovitz {an Austriuan plum
wine}?....

Not only did Joe love Silvovitz...he made his own...taught by his
grandfather and father...Joe claimed this "white lightening" was the
only drink that left him hangover free....My heart is
breaking...another great has left us...rest in peace...and thanks for
the joy..

This Week's JPL Sponsor: Barnstorm Productions - Charles Gatschet -
STEP LIGHTLY

Guitarist Charles Gatschet takes you on a musical journey from Bebop to
Brazil
on his latest release STEP LIGHTLY. Growing up in Kansas City afforded
Charles
the opportunity to work with such jazz notables as Claude ''Fiddler''
Williams,
Bobby Watson, Carmell Jones and many others who have made an impact on
the K.C.
jazz scene. With a stellar band featuring Ali Ryerson, Greg Gisbert,
Ken Walker,
Mark Simon, Eric Gunnison and Paul Romaine, Gatschet delivers an array
of
beautiful tunes, half of which are his own. Quoting from Dr. Herb
Wong's liner
notes: ''Jazz guitarist-composer Charles Gatschet's aesthetic backdrop
and the
music on STEP LIGHTLY, indeed, ignite reasons to step lively with
felicity of
Charles' mission in jazz.''

Genius....Giant....INNOVATOR.

so precious few can be called any of the above.
even more rare, is to be ALL of these.

like a comet that roared across the jazz and world music landscape for
all to
see,
this musical dynamo continued to thrill and lift up with his seemingly
limitless
energy.

from In A Silent Way to?his final notes, Joe Z's music enthralled me.?
his live
performances NEVER disappointed.? this supercharged human being seemed
to have
only one speed: burning!
[even his beautiful ballads were burning].

so many great memories, {@ Central Park's Schaeffer Music Festival with
Miles
for $2 for starters};
the Jaco days; the Syndicate; in the studio...listening to his
recordings--practically to excess!}

releasing Joe's Grammy nominated World Tour set on Zebra was among my
fondest
and proudest
experiences.? let Joe Z's music inspire us forever and let his life
stand as a
shining example
of one man who grabbed this life by the horns and lived it with such
zest and
enthusiasm, without compromise and so richly; and leaves this earth a
far more
beautiful and enriched place.

one of Joe's pleasures was sipping Slivovitz {an Austriuan plum wine}?
if you're
able, get a small bottle and hole up with a stack of Joe's music and
revel in a
life lived to the fullest, to a true global citizen.

One World/One Love
Thank You JOE!
