In the early 1970’s Miles Davis was listening to everything from Sly & the Family Stone to Stockhausen and the music he created then was totally inspired by that. Miles recorded an enormous amount of music, far too much to make it on the albums he released during that time. Question…how would you like to hear new music by Miles Davis that has never been released until now? Well, join us this week for a special edition of IF IT’S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION on Beyond Jazz and that’s exactly what you’ll hear. The new 6-disc box set, “The Complete ‘On The Corner’ Sessions” will hit the stores on Tuesday the 25th , and if you’d like to get an advance listening to the 12 new pieces that have never seen the light of day before now then join us, beginning at 7 AM Eastern/ 4 AM Pacific, as we begin each hour with one of those rare pieces of music history. It’s Miles along with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Al Foster, Dave Liebman, Jack DeJohnette, Bennie Maupin, Lonnie Liston Smith, Sonny Fortune, and many others with music covering 16 sessions between 1972 to 1975 that yielded the releases On The Corner, Big Fun and Get Up With It. It’s the never before heard rarities from the new 6-disc box set, “The Complete ‘On The Corner’ Sessions” and you can hear them this week on a special edition of IF IT’S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION, from XM 72, Beyond Jazz.

PREMIER SUNDAY on Beyond Jazz…XM 72
If you want new music then get ready this Sunday night, September 23rd for another Premier Sunday as we play 5 new releases for you here on Beyond Jazz featuring the work of one great guitarist and 4 red hot horn players! First, it’s the man they call SCO, the great John Scofield, featuring his guitar in a trio with Bill Stewart and Steve Swallow joined by a four-piece horn section to create something unlike anything you’ve ever heard from Sco on his new one titled “This Meets That.” Then that sound you hear is the sound of stretching out into new musical areas as that inventive man from San Diego, Karl Denson, with his trio and some special guests give us, “Lunar Orbit.” Master trumpeter Wallace Roney gives us a great, new work that is modern, electric-tinged, groove-oriented jazz of the highest order on his latest simply titled “Jazz.” From his work with Groove Collective to various Dave Holland-led bands, Josh Roseman has established himself as one fine trombonist. Now, he’s furthering his legend as a great composer and band leader with his latest release, “New Constellations: Live In Vienna,” recorded at Joe Zawinul’s Birdland in Austria. Then, speaking of live, we’ll head to The Cresent City for more great trombone music by a band new NOLA that features a front line of four trombonists. It’s Bonerama recorded live at the world famous Tipitina’s on their new one titled “Bringing It Home.” You’ve heard some of it on Jammin’ Jazz with Michelle, now hear more. It’s five new releases coming your way beginning at 10 PM Eastern/7 PM Pacific, right after THE MOJA REPORT with MARK RUFFIN on another Premier Sunday…part of The Sunday Specials, from XM 72, Beyond Jazz.
