the world famous Knitting Factory music club. LiveWired, in partnership with

"*AN EVENING WITH BLACKBYRD MCKNIGHT & FRIENDS" FEATURING MEMBERS OF
PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC, MELVIN GIBBS, WILL CALHOUN AND RONNIE DRAYTON"*,* *is
a homecoming appearance by McKnight, musical director, lead guitarist, and a
songwriter for George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic All-Stars. This
performance is a rare emergence for McKnight from behind the P-Funk curtain
to perform his originals, as well as an opportunity to be joined by members
of the Black Rock Coalition in a New York all-star tribute to the late Jimi
Hendrix. The first set will feature McKnight's own group, the *Blackbyrd
McKnight Project* with members Danny Bedrosian on keys *(Parliament-Funkadelic,
Secret Army)*, Ric Smoov on drums *(Rico Lewis, P-Funk, Bootsy's Rubber
Band)*,* *Lige Curry on bass *(P-Funk)*,* *and Mark Munoz on guitar *
(P-Funk)*. They will be performing McKnight's fusion of jazz, rock and funk,
which he calls "Progressive Funk-Rock". The evening's second set teams
McKnight with Black Rock Coalition members, *Gibbs **(Rollins Band, Pete
Cosey)**, Calhoun **(Living Colour)** *and *Drayton* *(DeFunkt)* to perform
*An Electric Church Hendrix Salute*, one day after the anniversary of the
rock legend's death.

In the early stages of his career, Dewayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight worked
mainly with jazz musicians, such as Charles Lloyd, Sonny Rollins, Herbie
Hancock & the Headhunters. Soon after, his musical path was directed towards
funk when he joined George Clinton & P-Funk in 1978. In addition to working
with P-Funk artists such as George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, and Bernie
Worrell, McKnight has also worked with Miles Davis, The Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Ron Wood & Bernard Fowler of the Rolling Stones, Bill Laswell, HR
of Bad Brains, Macy Gray, and Fishbone among others. McKnight's work
"Blackout" was used on "Screen Scene" on BET, and his song, "Why Should I
Dog You Out" was used on "Legends" on MTV. McKnight has performed in such
films as "PCU", "The Night Before" and "The Breaks", and has appeared on
television programs "Saturday Night Live", "The Tonight Show", "Late Night
with David Letterman", "The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame", "Motown Live", "New
York Undercover", "The Bernie Mac show", "Last Call with Carson Daly", and
appeared at Woodstock '99. He has also appeared in The FunkShip Nike
commercial aired in 2002.

Blackbyrd McKnight's music is a testament to the amazing innovations
happening largely unnoticed outside musicians' circles in American popular
culture and he was just recently cited by Outkast as being the inspiration
for the guitar parts on their hit "Bombs over Baghdad". In addition to
guitar, McKnight is a multi-instrumentalist, mastering bass guitar, drums,
percussion, as well as songwriting and producing.
