BTW. Thunder amd Rainbows eventually turned into Mega Watts.

Come November, Doc Tone will have been gone for 10 years. Programmers please play something to honor him on November 12 and on his birthday September 28.

I truly miss the wonderful person and musician that he was...

This week's sponsor: Lisa Hilton

Composer/pianist Lisa Hilton's latest release, ''Sunny Day Theory'' heads to
jazz radio next week. Hilton is joined by top talent Lewis Nash on drums, Larry
Grenadier on bass and Brice Winston on tenor sax. Eighteen time Grammy winner,
Al Schmitt recorded and mixed the 12 track release.

What is the ''Sunny Day Theory''? Hilton smiles, "My engineer Larry Mah
made me laugh recounting a 'Foggy Day Theory', so I countered with a 'Sunny Day
Theory' which basically assumes that difficulties, if embraced honestly, create
opportunity for growth. Life can be challenging: I've realized after a rough
year that the complex can be dealt with one step at a time, that there can be
depth in something as simple as a melody, beauty within the blues, and that with
tomorrow there is always the hope for a sunny day.''

Ricky

Thanks so much for the clarification. Even on Amazon it was quite
confusing. And thank you so much to Brian Lynch for providing us with an MP3
of
"Chance" - Christian McBride's second recording. Ricky you should be very
proud
for an extraordinary recording for an extraordinary musician.

Thanks all

That actually was NOT his only cd. Thunder and Rainbows was done with Jeff
Tain
Watts?in 1995.?Kenny's self titled, Kenny Kirkland came after that and
Chance
appears on that recording.

just to set the record straight:? Kenny Kirkland (sadly) only recorded 1
album as a leader.? his eponymous debut disc was released on GRP Records
(although Kenny was signed to Cranberry/Impulse!, and recorded the album for
Impulse!) after MCA Jazz was folded into MCA's then distributed GRP label
{setting
the stage for the Verve Group to be created, following MCA acquiring
Polygram}. "Chance" does in fact appear on this recording.

i know this to be the case, because i signed Kenny and oversaw the
production of that sensational album.

Thunder and Rainbows is a compilation record, it is not a Kenny Kirkland
record.? Kenny appears as a sideman, with Jeff "Tain" Watts on two
selections--credited to Tain.? "T & R" was originally released overseas in mid
1991
{AFTER the release of Kenny's disc}. Sunnyside reissued the T & R sessions
in the US in 1995.

we miss you kenny!

This week's sponsor: JazzWeek Summit 2009 -- dates and venue to be
announced in

August; registration opens in September.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Does anyone have a copy of Kenny Kirkland's one and only cd - Thunder and
Rainbows? I just need one tune from it - "Chance" for a podcast for the
Detroit Jazz Festival with Christian McBride.
It would also be great to have an MP3 from Wallace Roney's Obsession CD
that
was Christian's first recording.

It would be so appreciated. Please write me off board if you can help.

Peace
