Dear friends:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of veteran music
public relations executive Peter J. Levinson, considered by many in the
music business to be the preeminent authority on jazz and affiliated
music. In recent years he had also become one of the industry's most
prominent biographers of major figures in the musical field. Peter
succumbed early October 21 of head injuries due to a fall in his Malibu
home. He was 74 years old. For nearly two years he suffered from ALS
(Lou Gehrig's disease) which had eventually robbed him of his ability to
speak. Despite that, with the help of a talking computer, he worked
tirelessly for the industry until the day he died.

Funeral services will be private, with a musical memorial and
celebration of his life to be set later this year. In lieu of flowers,
the family asks that gifts be directed to the University of Virginia.
Checks should be made payable to the University of Virginia and sent to
Cecelia Baber, Director of Gift Accounting, Office of Development and
Public Affairs, University of Virginia, P.O. Box 400807,
Charlottesville, VA 22901-4807.

Please note on the check that the gift is in memory of Peter Levinson.

Gifts may be made on-line at
