Guy Lafitte would be a musician to mention in that discussion - French
tenor player who held his own with the American ex-pats, including
Lucky Thompson. Though he was probably developing more in the period
you mean, while active in the 1950's.

The French musicians union plays a role in this story for allowing,
over so many years, American musicians to work in France. They
eventually reversed that leaning.
