[JPL] The Latin, Brazilian & percussive side of Blue Note's 70th Anniversary

Arturo Gomez arturo at kuvo.org
Thu Jan 22 13:17:52 EST 2009

In conjunction with Jazz Appreciation Month-JAM in April and Blue Note
Records’ 70th anniversary I will be preparing a special on the more
percussive side of Blue Note Records. Alfred Lion wasn’t a fan of vocals but
he did like Cu-Bop, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and African jazz as evidenced by
the numerous recordings in these styles, many of which are all time
classics. Here is a list culled from the Blue Note discography that
displays the extensive Blue Note albums on the more percussive side. I will
not include the many re-issues from non-Blue Note labels that EMI is
re-packaging with the Blue Note records imprint. I am debating whether to
include some “corporate Blue Note” recordings such as the Irakere and Chucho
Valdés Quartet and other recordings of the 1990s.

For your perusal and enjoyment, I submit the list. Thank you Jazz Buffalo
!!! Arturo
