Jazz foundation gets $143,000

Kansas City’s Historic Jazz Foundation picked up a $143,000 check from
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver on Monday.

The money — which will be used to upgrade the video and still
photography archives at the Mutual Musicians Foundation building — comes
from an earmark Cleaver obtained earlier this year.

In March, Sen. John McCain of Arizona called the money for the
foundation “wasteful.”

“Senator McCain … has zeroed in on earmarks, which are less than 1
percent of a $3 trillion budget,” Cleaver said.

“Most of the people who talk about earmarks can’t talk about the part of
the budget they should be concerned about, (like) defense spending.”
