August 29th is known in the jazz world as the birthday of Charles Christopher Parker-the immortal Yardbird.  On August 29th, 1985 Jazz89KUVO began to broadcast for the very first time, a serendipitous date for a majority jazz formatted station. This past Saturday in honor of our 24th anniversary, one of Downbeat's Top 100 jazz venues on the globe, Dazzle Jazz allowed us to use the club to host staff and volunteers to celebrate, the Ken Walker Sextet-a world class ensemble-if they were in NYC the jazz community would be abuzz and all of the musicians would be checking out their shows, played for KUVO. Both sets were SRO and the good folks at Dazzle passed out KUVO birthday cake to all in attendance.

It was a magical music night and it was inspirational to see the love for KUVO by so many in the audience including René Marie. Check out the photos of the band here    www.flickr.com/photos/stalzz64<http://www.flickr.com/photos/stalzz64>
