This time the focus is on one of the most important figures in all of jazz history, HERBIE HANCOCK, on the very day that marks his 70th birthday. You'll hear all about his beginnings in his hometown of Chicago, his big breaks with Miles Davis and others, his contribution to the fusion era, his many collaborations and of course a full hour of his brilliant music. Every Friday beginning at 7 AM until midnight Eastern time we'll begin each hour with a classic piece of Jazz Fusion history with our special feature we call IF IT'S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION.  This Friday, April 16th, we'll celebrate one of the great jazz flutists and a major contributor to the fusion era on the day that would have been his 80th birthday with a special feature we call "HERBIE MANN'S GREATEST FUSION HITS ." Herbie grew up in New York City playing bebop but became one of the first to fuse Brazilian music with jazz in the early 1960's so when Fusion hit he was ready to roll into the era and worked with the likes of Larry Coryell, Duane Allman, Chick Corea, Miroslav Vitous and others on albums like Push Push, Memphis Underground, Muscle Shoals Nitty Gritty and classics live releases recorded at New York's Village Gate and The Newport Jazz Festival.  Listen this Friday and you'll hear them all and help us celebrate his 80th Birthday.  It's "HERBIE MANN'S GREATEST FUSION HITS ," on this week's edition of IF IT'S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION.

This Saturday we'll salute one of the greats of MOJA as we present our weekly feature WORDS & MUSIC on MOJA Radio this one titled "STANTON MOORE: THE MAN BEHIND THE BEAT!" As we debut his brand new release, "Groove Alchemy," we'll sit down with the man from New Orleans to talk about the city where we was born and raised, including his personal Katrina story, his view of the history of jazz with New Orleans as the source, his work with the all-star band Garage A Trois and much more.  Not only will you hear his words, with fellow GAT member Skerik sitting in, but you'll hear music from all three of the brand new releases that he's a part of including his new solo work, Garage A Trois's "Power Patriot," and Galactic' s latest, "Ya-Ka-May."  Interview segments followed by music will begin each hour from Noon through Midnight Eastern time (9 AM-9 PM Pacific).
