In Celebration of Asian Heritage Month – Music 
of Vietnamese Guitarist Nguyen Le

This month Global Village features music of guitarist, composer, 
arranger and band leader Nguyen Le. Born in Paris to Vietnamese parents, this former philosophy student 
turned self taught musician first made his mark on the music scene with 
the world music-inspired group Ultramarine. He released his first album 
as a leader in 1990 and has followed with a series of provocative and 
inventive recordings  -  several done in collaboration with Paris-based 
Vietnamese singer Huong Thanh - that combine jazz, Vietnamese, Latin, 
African and Indian music.  In addition, Le has worked with an impressive
 list of artists that includes Vince Mendoza, Art Lande, Ornette 
Coleman, Paul McCandless, Uri Caine and many others. Throughout the 
month, Global Village will highlight music of Nguyen Le, from 
collaborations to his work as a leader and  from his early days in 
Ultramarine to his newest CD Saiyuki, just released in the United 

Produced and hosted by Chris Heim, Global Village airs Monday through 
Friday at 9 p.m. on KMUW FM89.1. You can also hear Global Village on the
 KMUW-HD2 24-hour music service Monday through Thursday at midnight, 9 
a.m. and 2 p.m. and Fridays at 5 p.m. The Global Village Top 30 Show, 
the first Friday of every month on KMUW and every Friday on KMUW-HD2 at 
noon and 8 p.m., highlights the latest and best in world music new
