This is sad news. Bobby's recordings are outstanding, and in the regular
rotation here on Desert Island Jazz.

The always progressive Bobby Paunetto passed away on Tues, August 10th at
Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, NY, he was 66 and had been suffering from
multiple sclerosis since the late 1970s. Born on June 22nd, 1944 in
Brooklyn, he was raised in the Bronx and was a standout athlete in high
school until the Latin music bug hit him. Influenced by Cal Tjader Bobby
who was of Spanish and Italian heritage took up the vibes and graduated from
Berklee in the early 1970s. His ahead of the time 1965 recording "El Sonido
Moderno/Modern Sounds Of" has recently been re-issued with bonus tracks. His
mid-70s recordings on his own label Pathfinder label, Commit To memory and
Paunetto's Point(a song Cal Tjader wrote for him) are considered progressive
classics with an all star line up including the future founders of the Ft
Apache Band, Justo Almario. Ronnie Cuber, Tom Harrell and others In the
mid-90s Bobby issued Composer In Public with another stellar line up of
fist rate musicians playing his music.

Robert Vince Paunetto: June 22, 1944 to August 10, 2010. RIP
