Rick Roe’s web site relates that he has won first place in the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in 1994, and was also twice a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition (’93 & ’99) Besides numerous awards Rick has released several albums and has served as a professor at Michigan State University, holding down the piano chair for the MSU Professors of Jazz.

On Sunday, November 28, Rick Roe will be featured with the MSU Professors in a special concert at the Creole Gallery in Old Town, with a new composition he will premiere at the show. Roe’s love of the music of Thelonious Monk is evident.
